May was a full month with a lot of travel. I began my journey in Peterborough at the inaugural Ontario Authentic Leadership in Action program hosted by the Shambhala Institute. The Institute has hosted a summer program in Nova Scotia for the past 7 years but this was their first try at a regional program in Southern Ontario. There were approximately 150 participants representing public, business, community services, education, and health care sectors. The program is structured into five learning modules (each participant selects one at the time of registration) and plenary sessions (attended by all participants). My pick was Leading for Profound Innovation & Change with C. Otto Scharmer and Arawana Hayashi. It was a fantastic exploration of Theory U and presencing. I got to connect with truly one-of-a-kind folks. More on them in coming posts.
After Shambhala it was a short trip back to Toronto and time to get down to business. There was lots of work to do this month for the Partnership. We have started the process to develop a physical identity and virtual home. Setting up iNSPiRED PRACTiCE’s Toronto office was another major item on the to-do list. In July we will officially move into a great little space in Roncesvalles Village. More details to come. In the meantime, I was operating out of Tinto Coffeehouse; free wireless internet, amazing fair trade coffee, the friendliest staff and owner, and colourful surroundings.
Then back to Winnipeg for the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards gala – to celebrate my mom’s nomination. Shortly after, Peter Jordi and Sera Thompson arrived in Winnipeg to lead our Deep Democracy training. The three of us got to hang out, go for dinner, and tour a bit of the downtown. On the last night of their stay, Sera and I went for a hot yoga session at Moksha Yoga Winnipeg. It was my first time at the Winnipeg location and I was so pleased to finally get a chance to go. We had a lovely instructor, Nena and an awesome 90-minute sweat. After that, we met up with Peter and my family at Mondragon.
The training itself was fantastic! Such an amazing diversity of people and perspectives. I was so pleased with how it turned out since it has been a dream of mine for two years to bring Deep Democracy to Winnipeg. Since the training, a group of us has coordinated a Community of Practice to continue our learning and sharing.
