January is…brand new

january-is-brand-new

Welcome January! A new month and year. Everything is NEW!

It is the Year of the Cow (Ox) and that means a lot of great things. The ground will be a little less rocky. For us, it will mean new possibilities. In fact a BIG theme for iNSPiRED PRACTiCE in 2009 is possibility. We are going to be laying the foundation for some new ideas to grow and prosper in Toronto. Additionally, our biggest project with the Children’s Health & Environment Partnership in Winnipeg will take centre stage again in February until April 2009.

New adventures will allow us to develop more relationships and partnerships in spreading the word about our work and our philosophy iNSPiRED PRACTiCE. It will also allow us to contribute to community innovation projects started by others. A few of the prospective partners on our wish list include: Evergreen Canada, Inner City Development, Centre for Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship Launch Factor, The Hub Halifax and Serve! Canada.

January 2009 radiates possibility to be a contribution and make a difference.

Strolling along the edge of the sea, a man catches sight of a young woman who appears to be engaged in a ritual dance. She stoops down, then straightens to her full height, casting her arm out in an arc. Drawing closer, he sees that the beach around her is littered with starfish, and she is throwing them one by one into the sea. He lightly mocks her: “There are stranded starfish as far as the eye can see, for miles up the beach. What difference can saving a few of them possibly make?” Smiling, she bends down and once more tosses a starfish out over the water, saying serenely, “It certainly makes a difference to this one.”
