Cultural Intelligence

On March 11, 2010, Options for Success – our sister company – was recognized for Excellence in Leadership by the Human Resources Management Association of Manitoba (HRMAM) in the category of Diversity & Cultural Awareness. Although several other organizations submitted applications for the award, Options for Success Inc. was the sole nominee in the category and the ultimate award winner. It was an honour to be recognized for the work we do in breaking down cultural, generational and economic barriers to success.

Since I also have a role with Options for Success as Sustainability Strategist and iNSPiRED PRACTiCE has been contracted to work on key projects relevant to this subject area such as the Newcomer’s Guide to the Canadian Workplace, it was very special to take part in this moment.

It is the goal of both Options for Success Inc. and iNSPiRED PRACTiCE to continue our work by increasing Cultural Intelligence (CI) in workplaces across all sectors. As such, Options for Success is pleased to launch a new signature presentation:

Culture Shock: What You Don’t Know About How Culture Influences the Workplace

What you don’t know about how culture influences the workplace can cost you. Although we seem to better understand the need for ‘equity’ and ‘diversity’ in the workplace, this does not often translate into ‘integration’.

Do you know what the competencies of cultural integration are? Do you know how recognition of prior learning in a cultural context links with training and development? Do you understand how people of different cultures interpret self-assessments, learning plans, coaching, and feedback?  Are you making culturally-appropriate choices in your decision-making? Have you grasped the complexity of culture norms in the success of integrating and leveraging foreign-trained talent?

No? Now is the time.

As part of the session, Options for Success will present our Cultural Intelligence Assessment Tool. This tool allows participants to assess their cultural fluency in relation to recruitment and retention, group dynamics, prior learning and recognition, training and development, and performance evaluation, feedback and coaching.

As subject matter experts in the field of multi-generational and multi-cultural workforces, we have delivered presentations to Conference Board of Canada, Canadian Association of Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA), Manitoba Hydro, Emergis (Telus), Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC), and Occupational Rehabilitation Group of Canada.
